QUESTION: I understand that the Aramaic root רם means to “throw” and therefore verbs derived from that root are used when the Gemara “throws” two teachings on top of each other in order to illustrate a contradiction between them. But why is that the Gemara usually uses the word ורמינהו to ask such questions, but less commonly uses the word רמי to do the same thing? Do these two words means exactly the same thing or not?

The Gemara sometimes uses "Remi" hostever nstead of " to refer to Rabbi Meir, as "Remi" is a common abbreviation for his name.
ANSWER: Actually, the number of occurrences of each is almost equal, and there appears to be no difference between them. The Sefer Ha-Aruch does mention an interesting difference between רמי and רמינהו though: רם – רמו קראי אהדדי פי’ משליכים ומקשים פסוקים זה על זה. That is, the former refers to contradictions between Biblical verses, and the latter between Mishnaic/Braisa passages.
The Otzar HaBraisos says that it is a matter of Girsaos, and the more accurate one is actually
