QUESTION: What does the root קפח mean? It doesn’t seem to be of Biblical origin. Is it from Aramaic? It seems to mean so many things: “withhold”, “chop off”, “bury”, “arched”, “humpback”, etc. What’s its core meaning, and is it a cognate of any word in Tanakh?

The Hebrew root קפח (k-p-ḥ) typically means "to deprive," "cut off," or "take away" and is used in post-biblical Hebrew, especially in rabbinic texts. Though not found in the Tanach, scholars believe it developed from roots meaning to strike or reduce.
